My Best (And Worst) April Fool’s Day Prank

April Fool’s Day has come and gone–and I avoided the internet the entire day, because it’s gotten me several times in the past (like when it announced there would be a live-action remake of Anastasia… ? BUT then they recently announced that it’s actually happening. ?)

I’m not one for severe pranking, probably because I remember being five years old and my dad said, “There’s a baby pink elephant outside!” and I was over the moon about seeing and petting (and maybe riding) a baby pink elephant…until I understood what April Fool’s Day meant. 😛

So my best (and last) prank was when I was 16 years old. I had a pen pal from Bible camp–a boy pen pal *gasp*. And we were only ever friends. I called him big brother, he called me little sister, and we pen paled for a few years.

Well, my mom was always wagging her eyebrows and asking what he’d written in his most recent letter. So, one April Fool’s my older sister (also known as “evil twin” even though we’re not twins.) and I forged a letter from him.

This is us as teenagers. Yes, we were crazy and mischievous.

This was no easy feat. We were homeschooled, which meant that Mom knew our handwriting. So it took a lot of time, but–not to brag or anything–we were fabulous forgers. We wrote a whole letter about him saying he wanted to go to Bible College and become a youth pastor and how he wanted to marry me someday if I would only wait.

We were a complete mess of giggles as we stuffed it into an old envelope of his with a postmark date that didn’t even match the date of the letter. Then we put it in the mailbox and waited until it was “time to check the mail.”

I got it and made sure to read it in front of mom. I gasped and tried to act surprised. Then I gave the letter to Mom.

She.
Was.
Over.
The.
Moon.

I’d never seen her so excited. She squealed and asked me what I thought and went on and on about “what nice penmanship he has” (tee-hee) my heart sank lower and lower and lower. And I thought of the baby pink elephant and the huge sinking feeling that came when I learned it wasn’t real.

Then she finally noticed the postmark date. Hurray! Our game was about to be found out! But no, instead she thought maybe it had gotten lost in the mail and that he’d sent the letter AGES ago and had been sitting waiting for a response. Not knowing how Nadine felt! “YOU NEED TO WRITE HIM BACK!”

“Mom…”

“He’s been waiting all this time!” She still hadn’t let go of the letter.

“Mom…”

“What, honey?”

“It’s not real.” I couldn’t even bring myself to shout out, “April fools!”

“What do you mean?”

“It’s April Fool’s Day,” my big sister crowed, giving me a high five. “Nadine wrote the letter!”

I wanted to sink into the couch cushions and turn into pillow fluff. But my mom was a great sport. She smacked me good-naturedly and said, “Oh youuuu!” And all was fine.

But on that day I decided no more pranking. I’d done it too well and it was definitely the best and worst April Fool’s Day prank I’d ever pulled off. ?

How about you? Have you ever gotten baby-pink-elephant pranked? Or pranked someone else? Tell me your story in the comments!

How do you feel about April Fool’s Day in general?

I simply don’t believe anything on April fool’s day, sometimes my sister’s and I will play little pranks on one another. The most annoying bring changing computer passwords and then leaving the house. But we have never done anything like that, or a baby pink elephant. Often April fool’s jokes do seem to go too far though.

  2. THIS POST & STORY = GOLD. XD

Also, whaaa? A live-action version of Anastasia? I NEEDS <333

    • LOL! Glad you enjoyed it. And same! I’m freaking out a bit over that Anastasia announcement!

    • the new Anastasia movie isn’t going to be like the old one, its about Anastasia, who is lost during the storming of the palace at the beginning of the Russian revolution and then is transported to the 1980s and meets a girl named meg (whats interesting is that the actor that play Anastasia in the original was named meg) (after that bunny trail…) (another one!) (the actor of Anastasia in this one is the actor of young wonder woman) (After THAT bunny trail… back to our show) there is no Vlad, or Dametri.

  3. I’m dying laughing!! Thanks for sharing!

  4. That’s hilarious!! Thanks for posting it 🙂

  5. My family announced my mom’s very unexpected but very real pregnancy on April first. That was a fun day.

  6. I always mean to at least try a prank, but I always forget and by the time April Fools rolls around my attitude concerning it has dwindled to “meh”

  7. This reminded me of something me and my friend did in college. We wrote fake “love letters” and left them for two girls on our dorm to find and think it was from guys who had crushes on them. Lol, the letters sounded like something from Shakespeare, which I think is what gave them away as fakes in the end. 🙂

I love hearing from you!
