Sometimes I’m not sure what to post.
So many ideas and topics roll around in my mind it’s a journey just to settle on one. In last week’s cover reveal post, I mentioned I’d try to share the first chapter of A Time to Die soon. Due to some copyedit and typesetting going on with the final draft, I’ll have to postpone it a few weeks.
Meanwhile, it’s time to announce the winner of last week’s giveaway! We had almost 300 entries and everyone is reading some very interesting books right now. I had a lot of fun. If I could have given a prize to each of you, I would have. But despair not! I still have more milestones to hit while writing book 2, most of which include giveaways.
So without further ado, the giveaway winner is…..Bree Courtney!
Of the three books, she chose Love Does, by Bob Goff. Congratulations! Enjoy it!
Now, I have some questions for the audience. Blogging is a delight, especially if I know I’m touching topics that interest my readers. So this week, I want to hear from you. Don’t panic! It’s not that complicated.
If I could blog about anything, what would you choose? Here are some thoughts to get your juices flowing if your brain has hit that numb wall of panic:
- It could be an overall topic — marketing, writing process, editing process, etc.
- I could answer a question. Is there a question that’s burned, or just sparked, in your mind? I’ll do my best to address it (no guarantees I’ll succeed. I am human, you know.)
- I could review a book or movie you’ve wanted to know about.
- Do you want to know part of my personal story? It doesn’t even need to be writing or reading related. It could be anything! (Obviously, I’ll use discretion on what I choose to discuss publicly.) [grin]
Post your question, thought, or idea in the comments below. If you have a more private question or prefer to avoid the public, feel free to contact me privately!

I do enjoy your posts and I loved your humor in your last post about your cover. 🙂 The thing that comes most prominently to my mind is marketing. (Mainly because that’s where I’m at.) Since you have a more traditional publisher, how have you decided to market? Aside from this blog of course. 🙂
Secondly, Divergent. I’m thinking about reading the book and I am just curious about what you thought was best about it. From what I can glean from a few interviews with the author I seem to think she has faith in God. But I’m not sure. Does any of that show through in the book? Just, no spoilers. 😉
Thanks. Keep being awesome!
Thank you, Isaiah!
If you don’t mind waiting a few weeks, I’ve put these questions in my upcoming blog post plans, so I can answer them as thoroughly as possible. 🙂
I’ll address a little bit of Divergent right now since you’re considering reading it. I thought the best part about the series was how Veronica Roth (author) captured the feel of a dystopian government — where the battle of the story is against the country leadership. She does this in multiple ways through different threads and does an awesome job of developing different governments.
The faith in God does show through the books, though it’s very limited. It starts out as her parents’ faith and then she starts noticing and questioning a lot more through the series. There isn’t necessarily a conclusion to her questioning, but I’m pretty certain the author is a Christian. You have to look for the spiritual themes, though. They’re not obvious (and maybe not even intended.)
Wow…so much for not answering the question here! 😉
I concur with Isaiah about your posts, humor, and awesomeness. =)
I would be fascinated by your personal story: how you came to be a Christian, what fueled your passion for editing (and writing) and your desire to write
dystopian tales above all others… Also, have you or would consider writing in other genres and, more importantly, which genres would they be?
Thank you, Brent! 🙂
Great questions. Through June and July, I’ll be writing posts based on the questions asked in this comment thread. I’ll be sure to address yours. I’m already getting excited. After all, isn’t a storyteller’s greatest love sharing his/her story? [grin]
