We all have them in our lives. Chances are that you ARE one.
A bookworm.
And it’s Christmas time. Personally, I think bookworms are the easiest people in the world to shop for. Barnes & Noble gift card. Duh. BUT over the years I’ve learned about some other fantastic items that will warm a bookworm’s soul ALMOST as much as a new book.
1. A Book
Perhaps this seems obvious, but I won’t take anything for granted. I actually RARELY get a bookworm a book for Christmas. Why? Because I don’t know if they already have it, or if they’ll like it, or if they prefer hardcover or paperback. (If in doubt, GO HARDCOVER.)
2. A bookish candle
These are magic. It’s like a fandom all wrapped in wax and then set on fire. *takes a deep breath*
Personally, my favorite bookish candle shop EVER is In the Wick of Time. I haven’t tried all her scents, but the ones I HAVE tried are glorious and non-cloying.
3. Gift cards.
To Amazon. To Barnes and Noble. To your local bookstore. DO THIS, PEOPLE.
4. Cute bookmarks
Bookmarks are now a cool thing. They’re not just used to mark your place in a book. They are used to brew happiness! And to decorate bookshelves! And to stare at and drool over (but not onto).
Some of my favorite bookmark shops are:
Happy Hello–she makes little magnetic character bookmarks and I WANT THEM ALL! I want to build an army. Now you know my evil plot.
For more traditional bookmarks, I love Emilie Hendryx’s shop — CreateExploreRead–and LexyOlivia‘s bookmark shop.
5. A subscription to a bookish box.
So last year, my little sis kept gushing about how amazing my Christmas gift was going to be and I couldn’t imagine what she had gotten me. (We’re also practically twin-brained, so it was really weird for me not to be able to figure it out.) Then she revealed that she got me a 3-month subscription to the OwlCrate bookish box! I. FLIPPED.
Book boxes are a delivery service where you get sent a fantastic newly-released book (it’s a mystery, but they drop clues leading up to the box release) as well as a thousand (exaggerating) other goodies. Over the course of three months, I got three new hardcover YA books as well as goodies like special book-inpsired tea, a circus-themed candle, bookmarks galore, pins, funkos, cute bookworm tote bags….you name it. This was one of my favorite Christmas gifts EVER. You can usually visit the bookish subscription box sites to see what their past boxes have included so you know what to expect or what type of books they give out.
I really only stalk the YA bookish boxes, and as of writing this post I’ve only ever subscribed to OwlCrate, but there are others to choose from!
6. A Book-based Funko Pop
Bookworms don’t just put books on their shelves, you know. There is such thing as SHELF DECORATING. Think twinkle lights, mini pumpkins, bookmarks, and these weirdly cute things called funko pops.
I love pretty much all Funko Pops, but my favorites are the Harry Potter ones–or just the ones from my fandoms.
Your job is to scout out your bookworm’s fandoms, and then go search Amazon for all the funkos!!
7. Bookish coasters
Bookworms are often tea drinkers or coffee drinkers or cocoa drinkers or ALL THINGS HOT AND TASTY drinkers. They need coasters next to their books. You should get them some. And while you’re at it, make sure those coasters are bookish.
8. A folding book light
Some bookworms like to read by candlelight, but what if they could read BY BOOKLIGHT?! Look at these amazing books that are actually lights! ?
I have one and I use it ALL. THE. TIME. It’s probably one of my favorite bookish gifts I’ve ever received. It’s such a wonderful soft light and it allows hubby to sleep while I read until 2am. 😛
9. A book pouch.
Sick of scuffing the corners of your books when throwing two (or twenty) books in your purse? Or traveling? And bringing a book with you to a conference to get it signed? I recently discovered these adorable little book bags AND NOW I WANT THEM ALL. My Instagram friend, Steff, hand makes them over on her Etsy shop and her prices are the best I’ve found ANYWHERE. Also, they’re adorable, sturdy, well-made, and ship SUPER fast.
10. Book mug
Because everyone needs a mug and coaster that looks like a book. Let’s be honest now. My bestie got this for me and I like to drink chai lattes in it. Unfortunately I have no idea where she got it. But you get the idea–bookish mugs!
11. Bookends
No, the bookworm in your life probably doesn’t have room for bookends. But bookends have the word BOOK in them, so your bookworm friend will adore them.
12. A book clutch
Okay, this one might be weird for the male bookworm in your life, but look at these cool books THAT ARE ACTUALLY PURSES. I want one. I need one. But my only question is…what if I want to bring a book along? Does that make it a book in a book? (Inception, anyone?)
13. Writer gloves
I have these glorious writer gloves from Storiarts and they’re amazing! I use them for writing and walking and thinking and reading and tea drinking and fashion. They are all-purpose and fantastic. I also give them as gifts. Basically every single time I can.
14. A subscription to Audible
This last year I got hooked on audiobooks. They were the only thing that could get me through long drives to conferences and I felt like I was multitasking (safely) while driving! (Or cleaning dishes, or working out, etc…not that I do either of those things very often.)
A subscription to Audible is a great gift for your local bookworm because, um, books. And voices. And driving. Also, new subscribers get 2 free audiobooks to start!!
I also recently got hubby hooked on audiobooks. #win
15. A Letterboard
Letterboards are my new favorite thing–to put some bookish quotes up on the wall. I got mine from Letterfolk, but there are several companies that make nice letterboards. And almost all of them come with the letters! I think you can even get different fonts. #freaksout
Okay, that’s all I could think of from my little bookworm brain! And no, I don’t get commission for talking up these items (Okay, with some of them I do.) The main reason I share them is because I’m a bookworm and I love these things! (Or, for the ones I haven’t tried yet…I think I would love them. 😛 )
Of all the items on this list…which would you want the most?

Ahhh those gloves look AMAZING!! o-o And those bookmarks! And that book light!!!
I think I’ve bought my sisters a book for Christmas for many many years in a row. xD
Don’t you just love having bookish sisters? I don’t even know what I’d do with my sisters if I couldn’t get them books and talk books and geek out about books with them every year!
This is wonderful Nadine! You are so creative. I love the tea cup – never seen one like that before, and also the book purse! Thanks for all your great ideas.
Aww my pleasure! Yes, the teacup is one of my favorites! I use it all the time for chai. 🙂
Owl Crate or Funko POPs. They make a Cress and Cinder POP? LOVE!!
I know there are special custom POPs on Etsy! I’ve seen the Cress and Cinder and even Winter POPs on there!
That light! Those gloves! And that coaster — where did you get it? o.o It’s perfect for the little fox in my story!
AHHH! I always think of you when I use it! It came in an OwlCrate! *runs to look up who made it*
So much FUN! Totally the best gift would be the gift cards – because, I must have books – and the bookmarks – because I am forever losing track of what page I’m on while reading. 🙁 Am I the only one who is constantly misplacing bookmarks???
I always misplace them! You’re not alone!!! ANd I want to use them, so then I also lose them and bend them…but I guess that means they were well-loved? (And well-lost? *sad face*) 😛
“No, the bookworm in your life probably doesn’t have room for bookends. But bookends have the word BOOK in them, so your bookworm friend will adore them.”
This may be the most accurate sentence I have read in my life.
Also, thanks for the reminder on the book marks. I’ll have to add the set to my Christmas list and get little Parvin some friends. 😀
(In other news, my order of Speak shipped mere hours ago and I am /very/ excited.)
Yes! Parvin must not be alone. 😉
AHHHHH!! I’m so glad that Speak FINALLY. SHIPPED. It’s about time. 😉
all these are sooooo cool!!! i love those gloves and pretty bookmarks and wooden coaster and gift boxes and i could go on and on! 😉
LOL! These are my favorite bookish items ever! I just had to share! The gloves are some of my favorites. 🙂
Oh YAY!!! Thank you so much for featuring my shop friend!
