A Time to Rise: Cover Reveal & Giveaway

ATtR Cover Reveal Banner 2

Here we are, friends. The last and final cover reveal for the Out of Time Series. *deep breath*

Three years ago–almost to the day–I received the contract offer for my trilogy from Marcher Lord Press (now Enclave Publishing, an imprint of Gilead Publishing.) At the time, only A Time to Die had been written and I had no idea how I’d conclude the series. I’d barely spared a thought for A Time to Rise (and didn’t even choose the title until after I’d written it.)

Part of me thinks, “Wow . . . that was only three years ago?” A lot has happened in three years. A lot, peeps. Conferences, awards, book releases, crazy-nervous prayers. I was terrified to let the world read my book and now I want to shove it into everyone’s facees (with a side of Oreos) FOR FREE!

If only . . . 😉

So for this reveal, I thought it’d be fun to let you in on some little behind-the-scenes information regarding the first two covers before revealing the third.

ATimetoDieCov

When I first saw the cover for A Time to Die, it was as though Kirk Douponce (my fantastic cover designer) had captured my imagination and presented it to me on paper. He had read the entire book beforehand, which still stuns me because he’s so busy making fabulous covers! And my book ain’t exactly quick and easy reading.

The light hitting Parvin’s face was–to me–symbolic of the theme of hope in this book. Parvin is looking back at her past life, yet facing forward as though poised to take on a new life. It captured just the right feel of adventure, intensity, and dystopia.

ATimetoSpeak5

The process for A Time to Speak was much different. I sent Kirk a handful of my favorite scenes from book two and let him pick which one he wanted to go with. I had no expectations at all, no prior preferences on a cover, so when I saw the direction he was taking it, I was excited that it’d be capturing the snowy freezing Antarctica feel. (For all of you who had to read this book with parkas and hot cocoa . . . I’m sorry.)

If you’ve read A Time to Speak you probably know about the rope scene. Having the rope on the cover was a special surprise for me, because I considered it a big symbol of God’s hand over the people’s safety in this book. That was my favorite scene to write. Also, the downward draw of the viewer’s eye into that chasm then elevates Parvin, making her look like a leader. And in this book especially, God calls her to be a leader in many ways.

And now . . . without further ado . . .

. . . I’d like to present to you . . .

. . .the cover for A Time to Rise!

What symbolism or depth do you catch in this one?

ARE YOU SCREAMING?! I’m so screaming. Every time I look at it . . . I scream. Internally. So as not to frighten the neighbors. 😉  (Okay, I scream externally as well.) I love it! I love it! I love it! There’s so much I want to say and point out and SPOIL for everyone. But I shall zip mine lips. 😛

A Time to Rise releases on October 14th
(99 days, y’all. WE’RE IN THE DOUBLE DIGITS.) You can add it to your Goodreads to-read list here! Here is the synopsis to get you drooling even more.

(If you haven’t read the first two books. SKIP THIS SECTION! There are spoilers.)

What more can you sacrifice than your life?

.

Parvin Blackwater is dead.

.

At least…that’s what the Council—and the world—thinks. But her sacrifice tore down part of the Wall long enough to stir up hope and rebellion in the people. Now she will rise again. Strong, free, and fearless.

.

Parvin and Solomon must uncover the mysterious clues that Jude left behind in order to destroy the projected Wall once and for all. Meanwhile, the Council schemes to new levels of technology in its attempts to keep the people contained. Can a one-handed Radical and a scarred ex-Enforcer really bring shalom to the world?

  21. *GASP* This cover is gorgeous!

  22. SOOOOOOOOOOO BREATHTAKINGGGGGG ><

  23. USUALLY I read all the comments beforehand, but I am ITCHING to analyze this cover. I love the top corner of yellow-orange light, and that she’s walking toward it. That definitely symbolizes hope. I really hope that SOLOMON IS STANDING THERE lol. I hope I hope I hope. This is a wonderful cover. I love how all of your covers kind of hint at the plot and such. I personally love A Time To Speak’s cover 🙂 It’s different, it’s edgy but they’re all awesome 🙂

  24. Love the cover! I’m so glad to see a red tint to her hair!

  25. stitchesoffreedom

IT’S SO PRETTY. Um, can I have the book now? 😛

  26. The cover is breath-taking!! Great job!! So excited!!!

  27. A picture is worth 1,000 words, they say. The cover seems to be conveying a lot. I’m sure there is a lot of significance to the separation between the light and dark which I hope to discover once I get a chance to read your new book!

PS. I LOVE your bookmark set. My daughter recently started making similar artwork.

  28. *extremely aggressive fanboying* IT’S HERE HUZZAH IT LOOKS AMAZING AND BEAUTIFUL AND I CAN’T WAIT 🙂

  29. I’m reading A Time to Speak RIGHT NOW down the shore, on the beach, on my vacation, and I am SO loving it!!! So I haven’t gotten to the rope scene or Antarctica yet. I’ll have the hot chocolate ready, in anticipation … although it’s pretty darn warm on the beach. 😉

I love the newest cover – Kirk Douponce is amazing. Congrats!!

  30. It’s so epicly gorgeous, Nadine!!! <3 I think it's my favorite of the three covers! So, so, so excited to read it this October! 😀 😀

  31. Love it!!

  32. I love this cover!! I’m so excited to find out the symbolism in it!

  33. Best. Cover. Yet!

  34. I love the cover and I think it looks like she is walking towards something better, something golden, and leaving the destruction behind.

  35. Alice Farrelly

I think this one might be my favourite cover for the series. It speaks of endurance and hope.

  36. LOVE LOVE this Cover!! Might be my favorite yet!! Thanks!

  37. ITS SO BEAUTIFUL I NEED THIS IN MY CLUTCHES

  38. How beautiful! I learned about the series on Tricia Mingerink’s blog and I think I will go order myself books one and two . . . . Thank you for all your hard work to provide the world with good Christian fiction! It is really appreciated!

    • You’re so sweet! I hope you enjoy the books! You must tell me when you finish them! 🙂

Also, Tricia’s books are such a blessing to the world of clean fiction. <3

  39. This is my second time looking at it and my stomach still clinches…in a good way! I feel so many possibilities with this cover! It’s gorgeous, gives a feeling of deliverance. She walking through the fog toward the sunlight, a better place. Parvin definitely deserves that! Suddenly I’m thinking of the 23rd psalm. I love that her body shows her scratches/scars. So realistic and symbolic. By the way, I have a feeling those aren’t Solomon’s legs. 🙂 And i have to know: is the shape of that wood fence at the bottom like an odd sorta cross intentional? Anyway, I’m excited and giddy…must. have. this. now!!! Patience is a virtue, sigh, right? I’ll distract myself and re-read the first two in anticipation, starting this week. Seriously, thank you for this series and your hard work! Writing isn’t easy, feeling stories are rare. You and your protagonist shine. Counting the days!

  40. This is REALLY gorgeous, Nadine! I’m SOOO excited for you!!

  41. Aah, I love it so much! I love how the colors in this cover are different, yet still coordinate with the other books in the series. I also find the feet at the top very mysterious… I wonder if it’s Solomon standing there. And it looks as if Parvin is walking through the torn down wall, but that’s just speculation. I also like the fact that Parvin is confidently climbing on this cover; the picture goes very well with the title.

  42. I love this cover because it means that I have an answer to the cliffhanger ending … Knew she wasn’t dead. I feel like I can’t speculate too much until I read the book for any symbolism. I think the feet are probably Solomon, but just to throw it out there, skinny jeans/pants aren’t something I’d picture him wearing, but I could see Reid (or Jude maybe?) wearing something like that. =P

    I think I’m analyzing too much …

  43. Beautiful!! This cover ties in so beautifully with the other two! Kirk Douponce is gifted for sure! Way to go Kirk! The mysterious legs on the cover have me wondering. Hmmmmmm. I’m so excited for your upcoming release Nadine! This series is such a beautiful accomplishment in your life and I am sooooo, soooooo proud of you! XOXOXOXO — Mums

  44. I love the cover! HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO SURVIVE UNTIL OCTOBER?!? I’m so happy Parvin is alive…although it almost looks like she is walking up from the grave into Heaven, or something like that. I hope she’s alive. Lol. I have a love/hate relationship with your books-love, because they are so epically awesome-and hate, because you always manage to kill my favorite character! First Jude, then Parvin (I thought)…anyway, she had better not really be dead!! ;P

  45. All 3 covers are amazing! But if I have to choose, I think I prefer the last one 😀

  46. Wow, Nadine, the cover is gorgeous! I have yet to read all of them (though A Time to Die is on my bookshelf now!). <3333 Eep! Congratulations!

  47. That cover is absolutely beautiful! And I’m so happy to see a woman of God writing wonderful books! I can’t wait to get my hands on it!

  48. This is my favorite cover of the three. It’s so compelling and beautiful. I love it!
    So happy for you ♡

I love hearing from you!
