“Yer A Wizard, Nadine” — A Potential Future With Theme Parks?

In author interviews, I’m frequently asked, “If you couldn’t be a writer, what would you do?” This week, I finally figured it out. (Tweet this!)

Hubby and I celebrated an early anniversary by going to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park in Orlando, Florida.

harry-potter-comicMany of you know I’m an enormous Harry Potter fan. If I could meet anyone, it’d be J. K. Rowling. But almost as much as I love Harry Potter, I love love love “atmosphere.”

When I write, I play certain music, make a hot drink, place inspiring art around me, etc. When we do movie marathons, I deck out the whole basement. When reading Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter or Narnia to my younger siblings, I hang sheets, light candles, make special snacks . . . you get the picture.

Theme parks are right up my alley, and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter was atmosphere at its best, complete with a fire-breathing dragon, Hogwarts Express, self-stirring cauldrons, and delicious butterbeer.

Amidst all the drenching fun, I realized what I’d do if I was denied the future of pen-and-papering. Are you ready for this? Here goes . . . I’d be an atmospherist.

I would somehow find a way to be the interior designer of a Hobbit hotel, or organize the scene in a fairy-labyrinth-themed restaurant, or plan the details of a new theme park. Pinterest would be my new best friend. As dreamy or over-the-top that job description sounds, I’m sure there’s a need . . . somewhere . . . for me to fulfill.

I’ve also decided there needs to be a Lord of the Rings theme park. (Tweet this!) Maybe my future job? 😉

What is your favorite theme park?

If you could create a new theme park, what would it be based on? (Tweet this!)

  1. What does butter beer taste like? I’ve always pictured a butterscotch root beer type of drink.

    • That’s pretty much it! It was a carbonated butterscotch type of beverage and it was DELICIOUS. I didn’t think I’d like it because, for some reason, I always imagined butterbeer as a hot chocolaty type of drink. (Don’t know why.)

I love hearing from you!
