Anticipated Books and Movies in May

With summer approaching so fast (seriously…where did September go? 😉 ) I thought I’d share some books and movies I’m anticipating this next month.

Books:

Dreamtreaders by Wayne Thomas Batson (May 6th)

Dream Treaders

Okay, have you seen this cover?

I preordered this baby back in January, and I’m still drooling. The fantasy series I hope to write after my Time series has to do with dreams, so whenever a book comes out with a similar theme I try to embrace it.

Despite the inner-author-freak-out (“Wait, but I have a book idea with dreams in it!”) I cannot wait to read this book. Here’s the blurb:

Fourteen-year-old Archer Keaton discovers he has the ability to enter and explore his dreams. He is a “dreamtreader,” one of three selected from each generation. Their mission: to protect the waking world from the Nightmare Lord, who wreaks chaos in the Dream World. But as Archer’s dreams become more dangerous and threatening, so too does his waking life.

Rigby Thames, the new kid from England, builds a suspicious rock star-like following at Dresden High School a little too quickly. Even Archer’s best friend and confidant, Kara Windchil, seems taken in by the cool guy with the wild blond hair, which definitely rubs Archer the wrong way. Archer must face two foes in two worlds, but he cannot succeed alone. Archer sets off to find other dreamtreaders in a desperate attempt to defeat the enemy terrorizing his friends and family.

Monument 14: Savage Drift by Emmy Laybourne (May 6th)

M14 - Savage DriftThis is the third book in a apocalyptic series. The first book is Monument 14. They’re about fourteen school-age kids who get trapped in a superstore during the apocalypse of the majority of the USA.

I love these books, but I have to love them with a disclaimer: there is mature content. Swearing, some sensuality, crudeness. I don’t feel like I can recommend the books without giving a warning. But, mature content aside, the story and intensity of the plot are literal on-the-edge-of-your-seat quality. At least they were for me.

I won’t include the blurb because this is the third book in the series and I don’t want to give anything away, but check out the first book, Monument 14.

After the End by Amy Plum (May 6th)

After the EndI stumbled across this book and author just a couple days ago and, while I’m not as excited for it as I am for Dreamtreaders and M14: Savage Drift, it has me intrigued and excited. This book is like a backward post-apocalytpic book. Instead of surviving after the apocalypse and giving up past dreams of an intact world, Juneau has been surviving under the pretense of an apocalypse and then discovers a normal world.

Here’s the blurb:

World War III has left the world ravaged by nuclear radiation. A lucky few escaped to the Alaskan wilderness. They’ve survived for the last thirty years by living off the land, being one with nature, and hiding from whoever else might still be out there.

At least, this is what Juneau has been told her entire life.

When Juneau returns from a hunting trip to discover that everyone in her clan has vanished, she sets off to find them. Leaving the boundaries of their land for the very first time, she learns something horrifying: There never was a war. Cities were never destroyed. The world is intact. Everything was a lie.

Now Juneau is adrift in a modern-day world she never knew existed. But while she’s trying to find a way to rescue her friends and family, someone else is looking for her. Someone who knows the extraordinary truth about the secrets of her past.

MOVIES:

The Amazing Spiderman 2 (May 2)

I liked the first one mainly for the character development. I’m not a huge Spiderman fan, but I’ve enjoyed the acting and story development in these new ones.

Not to mention that Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are both fantastic in the movie.

Maleficent (May 30)

Now this movie will have me at the theater as soon as it comes out. I love fairy tales and, anyone can tell you that I’ve always declared Maleficent as the most intimidating Disney villain ever created.

Angelina Jolie is perfect for the roll. I’m fully prepared to be awed and terrified (in the best possible way.)

What books and movies are you looking forward to reading/seeing in May? They don’t have to be coming out in May, just books and movies you plan to read or see next month.

  1. Yes, I’ve been looking forward to Dream Treaders too! I had an idea for a story that involves dreams as well, but it isn’t that fleshed out…yet. ha! So yes, that part caught my eye as well as that cover. 🙂

I really want to see Maleficent as well! But I’ll probably won’t go to the theaters to see it.

  2. Ohh, After the End, does look interesting. Thanks for sharing. Might have to pick it up! 🙂

  3. I completely understand your inner author freak-out! There have been at least two or three books I’ve written that – while I’m in the midst of writing them – another book releases that makes me go “what?! That’s too much like MY idea!” Yet no matter what the idea, each author has their own very unique twist on it. Wayne Batson’s book does look promising and I’ll have to check it out for sure! But I look forward to seeing what you’ve got to write about the dreamworld as well, Nadine! 🙂

    • Aww, thank you, Ashlee!

Yes, I learned early on that I’d have to swallow my ruffled feathers when movies or books came out that were similar to my ideas. We could give ten authors the same concept idea and get ten different books that are all unique. 🙂

So I never give up an idea.

I love hearing from you!
