Updates in Editing – 20% Discount for All Authors

The time has come to change my editing system.

When my freelance editing business took off a year ago, I treated it as a ministry more than a means of income. It matched my vision to provide affordable editing to authors. But I learned quickly that the income vs. time-spent ration didn’t balance out very well. I couldn’t afford to keep my costs low forever while also being a full-time writer.

There just weren’t enough hours in the day (nor enough energy in my brain.)

About two months ago, I received an offer to work under another editor. The offered position confirmed many nudges I’d already received from God. After much prayer and consideration, I accepted, but with this acceptance came the need to adjust the pricing on my personal page.

The changes are a great step forward for me and, I hope, for authors.

  1. I’ll be offering five different levels of editing instead of just the one so there are more options to meet the differing needs of every author. You can find descriptions of all five edit options on my updated editing page.
  2. Prices will now be similar to the industry standard. This was a tough one to change, because I know budgets can be tight, especially for new authors. I have a few options that will help with that — one of which is by offering an hourly rate. The second option is listed next:
  3. I’ve created the SHALOM EDIT. I wanted to keep the ministry side of my editing business and, after deep prayers, I saw a way to still offer lighter editing costs for those who need them.

Blog - Shalom Edit #2

The Shalom Edit is an application process open to all authors. Four to Eight applicants are chosen per calendar year and will receive a comprehensive critique under my original pricing ($0.0035 per word.) To read more about it, click here.

I want to help authors perfect their craft and I want all authors to have the option to get their work edited, no matter his or her budget.

This does not mean I think every other freelance editing business out there has unreasonable pricing. After a year of editing, I understand the time commitment it takes from this end of the manuscript. Prices change with the economy. Mine must too, but not without my own personal flare. 😉

In closing, I’ll be giving a special discount coupon to every person who joins my newsletter through the end of March. (So share this news with your fellow authors.) All current members of the newsletter will receive one in their inbox as well.

20 off - Void

Any questions about the changes?

  1. Congratulations on making that bold step Nadine. Your time is definitely worth your effort. 🙂

And for curiosities sake, where might I look to find a list of the books you’ve edited?

    • Thank you, Isaiah!

I have not yet posted a list of edited books. Since I launched my editing business a year ago, the majority of books I’ve edited are still under contract and are not yet released. I can point you to a small handful of books if you shoot me a message through my contact page. 🙂

I love hearing from you!
